The Portable Virgin

Anne Enright’s first collection brings together fierce, witty and disquieting short stories about characters standing slightly outside ordinary life. Desire, betrayal, family and dislocation are rendered through sharp language and surreal turns, revealing the strangeness beneath familiar routines and the rebellious inner lives people hide.
